JD Fresh and Good Farmer Debut Costa Rican Pineapples in China

June 23, 2017

On June 21, an air shipment of five boxes of Costa Rican pineapples have reached Shanghai. The cargo weighted 60 kilos with the value of total USD 50. This is a sample shipment made by China’s leading fruit importer Good Farmer for the quarantine inspection.  The bulk shipment will arrive around end of June.

China’s well-known e-commerce platform JD Fresh reported previously visiting Costa Rica and accomplishing a strategic partnership with Good Farmer. The first shipment of Costa Rican pineapples to China is due to be launched on-line at the end of June.

This past March, Costa Rican pineapples were granted import access to Chinese markets. Costa Rica has become the fourth country to gain the market access after Philippine, Thailand, and Taiwan. The chairman of The Costa Rican Chamber of Exporters (CADEXCO) Laura Bonilla expressed Costa Rican businesses will make good use of this bilateral accord and emphasized the importance of publicizing business opportunities as well.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce—stationed in Costa Ric—announced earlier that the first shipment of fresh Costa Rican pineapples completed inspection and quarantine procedures and is already heading to China. In all, nine containers have shipped, each containing 150,000 kilograms of pineapples.
