Border Congestion Continues at Vietnam–China Crossings

According to officials from the Dong Dang Economic Zone Management Committee in Vietnam’s Lang Son province, the number of trucks awaiting entry into China through border crossings in the province remains high.

As of 8 p.m. on June 4, a total of 677 vehicles, including 495 fruit trucks, were waiting to enter China in Lang Son province, of which 520 were queuing at the Friendship Pass crossing while the remaining 147 were at the Tan Thanh–Puzhai crossing.

The recent congestion problems at border crossings between Vietnam and China started in the last week of May. To address the situation, officials from the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade have met with the Commercial Counselor of China in Vietnam. The Vietnamese side hopes that China can increase its customs clearance efficiency and establish green channels for Vietnamese fruits during the peak harvest season in June and July.

In an effort to reduce the number of trucks waiting to enter China through the Friendship Pass crossing, Chinese authorities recently agreed to open the Tan Thanh–Puzhai crossing to Vietnamese durians. Additionally, both countries are actively guiding companies on both sides to utilize alternative routes for fruit transport, including the Ta Lung–Shuikou, Tra Linh–Longbang, Mong Cai–Dongxing, Thanh Thuy–Tianbao and Kim Thanh–Beishan crossings.

According to the Vietnam Economic Times, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has also sent letters to the relevant departments of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in the hope that the Chinese side will proactively seek updates on the customs clearance situation at the border crossings between the two countries.
