“Traditional Trade” in the AQSIQ Revised List of August 2

August 16, 2016
Tim

On August 2, 2016, Animal and Plant Division of China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) updated the list of fresh fruits that have obtained other countries’ inspection and quarantine access. Produce Report has written on this. However, a question has been raised about the statement that “traditional trade was not included”. After consulting AQSIQ, we received the following reply which is reported below. We hope this would be helpful to the readers.

Produce Report:
On August 2, Animal and Plant Division updated the list of fresh fruits that have obtained other countries’ inspection and quarantine access. What products are included as “traditional trade” at the end of the notice and which countries are they exporting to?

AQSIQ:
On the Animal and Plant Division’s updated list of fresh fruits that have obtained other countries’ inspection and quarantine access, traditional trade refers to those fresh fruits that can be exported directly to a certain country without having to sign bilateral agreement, such as exporting oranges to Russia. This kind of traditional trade cannot specify the types of fruit and the countries because some fresh fruits trade already exists with importing countries that do not have any inspection and quarantine access requirement. With some countries, even though there is no inspection and quarantine access requirement, fresh fruits trade has not started. In other cases, fresh fruits trade has been established but the importing countries may introduce inspection and quarantine access requirements in the future. Those who have interest in exporting certain fruits to any country that is not on the list can inquire with the specific country’s inspection and quarantine authorities.
