June 05, 2015

The Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau(Shanghai CIQ) revealed to the press on June 4th that the Yangshan fruit import port of the Shanghai Experimental Free Trade Zone has been approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) to become the nation's first designated fruit import port inside of a free trade zone, engaging in the business of fruit supervision, inspection, and quarantine.

According to reports, the Yangshan Free Trade Zone has already established measures for customs joint inspection, cross-border E-commerce etc. With the approval of the Yangshan Designated Fruit Import Port, imported fruit will also receive the support and benefit of advantageous government policies concerning inspection, quarantine, expedited customs approval, tariffs etc.

According to analysis, it appears that the approval of the Yangshan Designated Fruit Import Port may benefit fruit imported from Taiwan the most.  In may of 2015, 2075 tons of fruit were imported from Taiwan to Shanghai, which is an increase of 48% over the same time last year, and nearly 800% over the same time 10 years ago.
