Berlin, April 4, 2022FRUIT LOGISTICA is back. After a one-year, pandemic-induced absence, it is being held again from April 5 to 7 with the theme “Meet onsite again,” turning Berlin into the place to be for the global fresh produce industry. FRUIT LOGISTICA not only reflects the entire value-added chain from the producer to the point of sale but also provides the ideal platform for business, innovation, and information. Buyers and professional visitors from 115 countries can look forward to seeing around 2,000 exhibitors from 87 countries. The internationality across continents thus remains one of the central defining characteristics of FRUIT LOGISTICA this year, alongside the quality of the trade visitors.

In November 2021, FRUIT LOGISTICA was postponed from February to April due to the expected development of the coronavirus pandemic, with correspondingly strict conditions. And the time has come: FRUIT LOGISTICA is being held over the next three days with no restrictions.

“Some exhibitors still had to cancel with a heavy heart due to the late planning certainty in connection with the pandemic and a correspondingly shortened preparation time, but will participate as trade visitors,” says Kai Mangelberger, director of FRUIT LOGISTICA. “For others, the April date and the start of their season overlapped.” Next year FRUIT LOGISTICA will return to its original date in February.

“In February 2020, FRUIT LOGISTICA was the last leading international trade show before the Berlin exhibition grounds had to be closed due to the pandemic. We are all the more pleased that now, two years later, we are the first leading international trade show in Germany to be held again after the far-reaching infection control measures expired,” says Mangelberger. “Now it’s time to look ahead, because FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022 is about to kick off.”

Business, innovation, and information

FRUIT LOGISTICA not only provides ideal business opportunities but is also an important knowledge platform. Sustainability, especially with regard to cultivation, packaging, and transportation, as well as the effects of the climate crisis on producers and the digitization of agriculture, are just a few of the complex challenges facing the international fruit trade. The war in Ukraine also has far-reaching effects for the global fruit trade: Flows of goods are being shifted; supply chains are under pressure. These topics and more pertaining to the international fruit trade will be discussed in various series of events, thereby providing the ideal opportunity to catch up on knowledge from the past two years and make better business decisions. All event series will be available to livestream, and on demand as of mid-April, on the digital industry platform FRUIT LOGISTICA Online.

FRUIT LOGISTICA also presents a broad range of innovations. Some of these have been nominated for the FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Award, the most coveted international award in the fruit trade. A jury consisting of experts from all parts of the value-added chain has selected the 10 most innovative products, services, and technical solutions introduced on the market in the last year. On April 5 and 6, 2022, the first two days of the trade show, trade visitors can get an overview of the nominees in a specially designated area of Hall 20 and can then vote for their favorite. Which of these nominations will be voted Innovation of the Year and can take home the prestigious FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Award on April 7, 2022?

Ten trends to keep an eye on

Today’s Digital Media Preview included a first look at the latest annual FRUIT LOGISTICA Trend Report. Entitled “Fresh Future · Ten trends to follow in 2022,” the publication explores the 10 most important trends that are set to shape the fresh produce industry this year. It looks closely at the potential impact that new demands will place on the trade, for example the drive toward more sustainable business, a shift toward more local and regional supply, and the effect of new and groundbreaking technological advances.

This year’s report was put together with the help of a team of industry trendwatchers. Three of those contributors – Ben Horsbrugh of certification provider GlobalGAP, Jan Doldersum of vegetable seed breeder Rijk Zwaan, and Fabio Zanesco of apple supplier VIP Val Venosta – took part in today’s Digital Media Preview. Kai Mangelberger, director of FRUIT LOGISTICA, gave an overview of the highlights for this year. The event was moderated by Chris White, managing director of Fruitnet Media International.

Trade visitors already on their way to Berlin should get their ticket now. Permanent passes are 85 euros, and day passes are 45 euros. Tickets are solely available online through the ticket shop. There will be no ticket shop onsite.
