Asia Replaces US as Chile’s Top Fruit Export Market

The Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX), a nonprofit organization representing Chile’s fresh fruit growers and exporters, recently reported that Chile has so far exported 1,839,723 metric tons of fresh fruit to the global market during the 2020/21 production season, corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 0.3%.

According to ASOEX, the Asian market has accounted for 37.8% of Chile’s fresh fruit exports during the 2020/21 season to date, while the United States has represented 26.8%. The subsequent four top export markets are Europe at 17.9%, Latin America at 15.4%, the Middle East at 2.4% and Canada at 1.9%.

The top exported fruits from Chile were fresh table grapes, accounting for 28.7% of the total export volume, followed by cherries (19.2%), apples (17%), plums (6.6%), blueberries (6.4%), pears (4.4%), nectarines (3.9%), avocados (3.9%) and oranges (3.4%).
