Frutas de Chile Shines at China International Import Expo

On Nov. 5, the 7th China International Import Expo kicked off in Shanghai. Representing Chile as a distinguished national brand, Frutas de Chile joined the expo with support from the Chile National Pavilion and ProChile, allowing it to connect directly with a wide range of Chinese importers, buyers and distributors.

According to Frutas de Chile, 30% of Chile’s fruit exports are sent to Asia, with China as the top-priority market in the region. In October 2023, China opened its doors to fresh Chilean apricots and peaches, meaning that nearly all of Chile’s major fruit varieties now have access to the Chinese market. In the 2024/25 season, Chinese consumers will be able to enjoy fresh Chilean cherries, blueberries, plums, grapes, as well as nectarines and apricots.

As Chile’s fruit export season begins, Chinese importers and distributors are well prepared for the upcoming supply. At the expo, a representative from Joy Wing Mau, one of China’s leading fruit importers, pointed out that Chile’s ideal geography, climate and advanced cultivation techniques contribute to its consistently high-quality fruit. Additionally, Chile’s location in the Southern Hemisphere means that its fruit season complements China’s, providing a distinct competitive advantage for Chilean fruit on the Chinese market. The China International Import Expo, as a premier event, offers Joy Wing Mau an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and introduce more premium Chilean fruits to Chinese consumers.

Talking about Chilean cherries, Ou Guangqiang, deputy general manager of the International Procurement Division at the fruit chain brand Pagoda Group, stated that Pagoda has completed the coordination and communication with all its suppliers. Through its omnichannel distribution, the company expects this season’s sales of Chilean cherries to reach double those of last year. By experimenting with different packaging specifications in recent years, Pagoda hopes to achieve its sales goal for the season.

On Nov. 6, Frutas de Chile and Tmall jointly hosted the “24/25 Season Tmall–Frutas de Chile Chilean Cherries Promotional Program Ceremony.” Alberto Cañas, trade commissioner of Chile in Shanghai, along with a representative from Frutas de Chile, took to the stage as special guests to launch the sales plan with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After the ceremony, Tmall Food conducted a livestream on Taobao from the Chile National Pavilion. The two guests appeared on the broadcast to promote Chilean cherries, which were made available for instant purchase. As Chile enters its summer in November, a variety of local fruits, including blueberries, table grapes, nectarines and plums, will soon be ready for export, with Tmall’s livestreaming platform offering a convenient way for these fruits to reach Chinese households.

Tmall Food is also set to expand its consumer base for Chilean cherries and boost their sales this season through a range of promotional initiatives, including conducting more livestreams and offering subsidies.

The China International Import Expo has established itself as a vital platform for fruit industry stakeholders to connect and explore new partnerships. It also serves as a prominent showcase for premium fruits from around the world. Frutas de Chile will continue to leverage this platform to increase awareness of the exceptional quality of Chilean fruits among Chinese consumers.
