USHBC Returning to Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong

August 27, 2024

As this season’s fresh blueberries from the United States begin arriving in China, the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council will be returning to Hong Kong to showcase fresh blueberries and a variety of blueberry-based products to the international attendees of Asia Fruit Logistica, which will be held at AsiaWorld-Expo on Sept. 4–6.

Global demand for blueberries has surged over the past decade, leading to a rapid increase in production. In 2022, worldwide blueberry production hit a record 1.86 million metric tons.

Blueberries are native to North America, and the United States has long been a world leader in production of the fruit. At 322,595 metric tons, the 2023 crop was the largest on record, valued at $1.45 billion, according to the North American Blueberry Council. That same year, blueberry exports increased by 30% to reach an unprecedented 65,790 metric tons, worth approximately $218 million, based on data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Global Agricultural Trade System.

The USHBC promotes a wide range of blueberry products, including fresh, frozen, dried and freeze-dried blueberries, as well as blueberry juice, concentrates, powders and canned goods. The council’s latest export plan focuses on key Asian markets such as China, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and South Korea.

At this year’s Asia Fruit Logistica, the USHBC will be offering a diverse array of services ranging from market insights and procurement solutions to culinary inspiration and consumer education, providing a one-stop solution for clients and customers. At the same time, the council is actively working to boost demand for U.S. blueberries among consumers, catering operators, manufacturers and retailers around the world.
