Chile Anticipates Promising Stone Fruit Season

According to a recent news report by Simfruit, Frutas de Chile, formerly known as the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association, has revealed in its first forecast for the 2023/24 season that the production and export volumes of Japanese plums, European plums and nectarines are expected to increase.

This forecast is based on information provided by 44 stone fruit companies, which collectively accounted for 84% of last season’s total export volume. In the 2023/24 season, these companies are anticipated to be responsible for 92% of Japanese plum production, 72% of European plum production and 93% of nectarine production.

Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, noted that a positive trend has been observed at the onset of the 2023/24 season, especially in the stone fruit category. The total export volume of Chilean stone fruit is projected to rise to 30,033,375 cartons.

Shipments of Japanese plums are forecast to see a year-on-year increase of 19%, while those of European plums and nectarines are expected to grow by 25% and 22%, respectively.

Ignacio Caballero, global marketing director for Frutas de Chile, announced that the association is in the process of establishing the Chilean Stone Fruit Committee. The committee aims to expand the international market for Chilean stone fruit while simultaneously enhancing fruit quality.

According to Caballero, Frutas de Chile will release the second forecast for stone fruit exports in late January. The upcoming report will incorporate a forecast for exports of Chilean peaches, which were granted market access to China toward the end of last year.
